The Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act is an omnibus piece of legislation which seeks to markedly reduce the amount of plastic that US consumers along with industry members use, introducing measures such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), minimum recycled content requirements in containers, and banning certain single-use plastic products. It also proposes a national bottle deposit program, which the US lacks. The proposed program would implement a 10 cent USD deposit on many beverage containers under 3 liters, with noted exemptions for states with existing bottle bills.
